I have made a huge discovery! I hate being on camera. Okay so I kind of already knew that but it has definitely been reinforced. Whether it be practicing portrait taking with my wonderful partner, Brianne, or learning how to anchor a news show, I prefer being behind the camera.
What I have discovered is that I really enjoy shooting video. I have always been focused on writing so when I first used a video camera two days ago I wasn’t really sure what to expect, and I never would have guessed how much fun it could be. When we used the Stony Brook campus studio yesterday I had so much fun controlling the teleprompter and sitting in the control room controlling audio or keeping the camera fixed on the anchors. Of course when it was my turn to try anchoring, I was terrified. The same thing happened later in the day at the Ducks game. I had fun helping the other members of my team (James and Maya) set up the camera and do the mic check. Then came the time to go up to people and ask questions and see if they would mind answering more on camera. I think I might have started shaking! Even though I was so nervous, it was still a good experience and helped me to get out of my shell a little bit.
